In case you haven't been able to tell yet I work in a retail store that sells pretty much everything nerdy, fun and generally awesome. Well, this week coming in we have some of the Kubrick toys from the new Toy Story 3 movie. The movie it self is amazing! Pixar never manages to disappoint me or let me get through one of their movies without crying like a little girl. (Up, you bastard, got me right at the beginning.)
Naturally the next step is to have a million toys of Woody and the whole gang. Like I mentioned Kubrick is just the newest thing we're getting at the store. I was, however, disturbed by the picture of the little guys in their Kubrick form, mostly because of their facial expressions. Most notably by how douchy Woody and Buzz look. I won't even complain about the fact that Zurg is in the wave when Lotso should have been. Especially considering Buzz's arch enemy wasn't even in the actual movie and showed up for about 30 seconds (at best) of the credits epilogue animations.
But we can look past who's missing and see what's actually going on with the guys in this series. It'd be pretty hard to screw up these little 2 inch figures and generally Kubricks are super amusing and cute little lego like figures. Of the six total mini toys 3 of them I'm completely cool with. They're pretty much exactly what they should be. I'm even ok with Jesse's uber happy excited face. It's going with her personality pretty darn well. And face it, it's pretty darn hard to screw up Zurg's face and even Army Man's there. I can even make peace with the seeming really scared Pizza Planet Alien who is either really unsure of if he should flee from whatever is scaring him or is about to pee himself from fright. They could have at least given him his ' Oooooo the claw!" face or something.
But here's the kicker of the entire wave and it's the from two of the main characters that we've had through all three Toy Story movies; Woody and Buzz. Woody who is known for being the best toy and friend you could ever want. He'll never give up on you! He'll be by your side through thick and thin with all the snakes your boots can handle. Why then does it look like he's about to do some evil?
Is this bizzaro world Woody? Where's his evil twin mustache? I gotta say I don't feel like he's going to be my best friend forever. I feel like he might take my lunch money. I also gotta say Buzz isn't fairing to much better with his own facial expression. It looks like he barely has enough brain cells to walk and talk at the same time. Or that he might try out some really sleazy pick up lines on you.
Our heroes might be a little more zero in these renditions but at least woody can have a sweet stache
now.
